Sirosh Masuood, MD, illustrates, by way of an example of a student preparing for a big test, how the process and pattern of intense rumination, often leading to a kind of "paralysis", impedes many aspects of the lives, work, and relationships of patients with anxiety disorder.

Dr Masuood emphasizes the importance whereby clinicians, starting in the primary care setting, screen patients by asking the important questions about how their anxiety is manifesting in their lives and how once diagnosed, patients can decide amongst a variety of treatment modalities, both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic, to help control their anxiety.
