Abstract and Introduction
Introduction
Gun safety is a public health issue and is becoming a public health crisis. As a nation, we are forced to acknowledge we are no longer safe in our classrooms, grocery stores, or places of worship. And so, a school nurse and a dean/interim provost are called to action – action through a healthcare lens of courage, conviction, and political capacity – to ask Congress to act immediately and not a moment later to see what gun violence looks like through a nurse's lens.
Why has this trauma and terror of gun violence not changed policy? Because elected officials have been focused on the politics of gun violence and not gun safety. If you are a nurse in any capacity, you know first-hand the pain and human suffering of gun violence.
