So many doctors have complained about health plans' overuse of prior authorizations that Congress has introduced legislation that would require Medicare Advantage plans to meet certain standards and requirements.

The AMA-backed bill, which already passed the House, would require MA plans to improve the transparency, timeliness, and quality of their prior authorization processes based on standards developed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
