Embracing a Measurement-Based Care Approach in Major Depressive Disorder

Leslie Citrome, MD, MPH

October 03, 2022

Leslie Citrome, MD, MPH, recalls the period in his psychiatric practice when his approach to the treatment of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) changed owing to the research on measurement-based care by Dr Madhukar Trivedi. Dr Citrome realized the full potential of screening tools like the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) after seeing the difference in how patients honestly rated themselves on how they feel vs his perceptions.

Additionally, Dr Citrome sees that a measurement-based care approach can address issues of medication adherence and help develop a treatment strategy.
