Compensation for an average physician under age 40 rose in 2021, at rates even faster than for their older peers. Salary stagnation or declines from the COVID-19 pandemic appeared to be in younger doctors' rearview mirrors. However, even among physicians under age 40, men continue to earn more than women do, and only a slim majority of younger doctors feel fairly compensated for the hours and patient counts.
