Michelle Petri, MD, remembers the instruction of an esteemed mentor, Dr Peter Singleton, who taught the invaluable skill of constructive communication with patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.
Dr Petri also notes that because many patients with lupus present with noninflammatory symptoms like pain and fatigue, Dr Singleton's guidance on how to address these with nonpharmacologic means provided essential balance to the scene of treatment.
