Best Hospitals for Neurology/Neurosurgery: Who's Number 1?

NYU Langone Hospitals in New York City is the best US hospital for neurology care, according to the 2022-2023 US News & World Report annual ranking of best hospitals for neurology and neurosurgery.

NYU Langone rose to the number 1 spot this year, after placing 5th in the magazine's rankings for 2021-2022.

UCSF Health-UCSF Medical Center, San Francisco, California, which held the top spot last year for neurology care, is now number 2.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital–Columbia and Cornell in New York City holds the number 3 spot for neurology care, down from number 2 last year.

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago sits at number 4 on the list (down from number 3 last year), while Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, is ranked 5th, down from number 4 last year.

Rounding out the top 10 hospitals for neurology and neurosurgery are Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota; Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California; Cleveland Clinic, Ohio; Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City; and Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Illinois.

"For patients considering their options for where to get care, the Best Hospitals rankings are designed to help them and their medical professionals identify hospitals that excel in the kind of care they may need," Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U S News, said in a news release.

Mayo Clinic Tops Overall

In the overall 2022-2023 rankings and ratings, US News compared more than 4500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions.

As reported by Medscape Medical News, the Mayo Clinic claimed the top spot on the honor roll for the seventh consecutive year in terms of overall rankings of best hospitals, followed by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at number 2 and NYU Langone Hospitals at number 3.

Cleveland Clinic holds the number 4 spot in the overall rankings, while Johns Hopkins and UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles tied for 5th place.

This year marks the 33rd edition of the magazine's best hospitals rankings or hospitals overall and by key specialties.

According to a news release from US News, the rankings consider a variety of data provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, American Hospital Association, professional organizations, and medical specialists.
