Lorenzo Norris, MD, reflects on his early days as a young clinician and realizing that he needed to be more aware of the presence of comorbid anxiety disorders when treating patients with depression.

Norris stresses the importance of screening patients who present as treatment-resistant for generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety disorder. Specifically, he focuses on the prevalence of such anxiety disorders in adolescents and young adults, who may not be ready to open up about their anxieties and who have been experiencing the stressors of the COVID-19 pandemic.
