Stephanie Graff, MD, confronts the disparities in healthcare that face patients with metastatic breast cancer and how those disparities affect diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes. Dr Graff cites one specific example in how survival and outcomes for Black women diagnosed with breast cancer are often worse owing to multiple factors that feed treatment disparities, such as socioeconomic status, structural racism, and underrepresentation in clinical trials.
Dr Graff also encourages physicians to diversify their care team at every level to ensure that clinical trials are being offered to people of all communities, colors, and backgrounds.
