Hilary Clinton Tests Positive for COVID-19

Hillary Clinton announced on Tuesday evening that she has tested positive for COVID-19.

The 74-year-old former first lady and secretary of state is vaccinated and has mild symptoms.

"Well, I've tested positive for COVID. I've got some mild cold symptoms but am feeling fine," she wrote in a post on Twitter.

"I'm more grateful than ever for the protection vaccines can provide against serious illness," she said. "Please get vaccinated and boosted if you haven't already!"

She also noted that former President Bill Clinton, 75, tested negative and "is feeling fine."

"He's quarantining until our household is fully in the clear," she said. "Movie recommendations appreciated!"

Clinton is the latest of several political figures who have tested positive for the coronavirus, CNN reported. Earlier on Tuesday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said she tested positive and wouldn't travel to Europe with President Joe Biden for this week's NATO summit. Psaki said that she had two "socially-distanced meetings" with Biden the day before but that he wasn't considered a close contact under CDC guidelines. Biden also tested negative on Tuesday.

"Thanks to the vaccine, I have only experienced mild symptoms," Psaki said in a statement. "In alignment with White House COVID-19 protocols, I will work from home and plan to return to work in person at the conclusion of a five-day isolation period and a negative test."

Last week, former President Barack Obama tested positive and said he was "feeling fine" other than a scratchy throat, according to CBS News. Also last week, second gentleman Doug Emhoff tested positive, marking the first known case among the first and second families during the Biden administration.

Although COVID-19 cases have fallen sharply in the U.S. in recent weeks, public health officials are watching the latest uptick across Europe, where the Omicron subvariant BA.2 is driving up case numbers.

As of Wednesday morning, the U.S. was averaging fewer than 30,000 new cases per day, according to the data tracker from The New York Times, which is 26% lower than 2 weeks ago. About 21,000 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized across the country, and about 1,000 COVID-19 deaths are being reported daily.
