Results from this large real-world cohort study showed that the long-term risk of UGIB remained 1.6-times higher in H. pylori eradicated patients than in H. pylori-negative patients. The risk of UGIB significantly increased after the initial 2-year of eradication, particularly in older patients (>45 years). Our results would support the early eradication of UGIB in younger patients to maximise the benefits in preventing UGIB. Moreover, even after H. pylori eradication, there may be need of gastroprotection in preventing UGIB, particularly in older patients and more than two years after eradication.
