As proximal humeral fractures are one of the most commonly encountered fractures in elderly patients, a thorough understanding of the treatment methods is important for surgical decision making and counseling patients on reasonable postoperative expectations. The findings of this study suggest that delaying rTSA may result in increased complication and additional surgery. When considering rTSA treatment in elderly patients, a trial of nonsurgical management may not be as prudent as previously suggested.
