PHF is a common orthopaedic injury that requires a comprehensive knowledge of upper-extremity anatomy, a thorough clinical and radiographic evaluation, and an understanding of surgical techniques for appropriate management. Multiple studies have delineated effective treatment options based on Neer's fracture classification system. Further research to help predict common long-term complications such as osteonecrosis and posttraumatic arthritis will help guide optimal treatment modalities, as will further technological advancements in plate and screw, intramedullary, and arthroplasty implants.
