United Airlines announced on Monday that it will offer the chance to win free flights to customers who have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

New or existing members of United's MileagePlus loyalty program will be able to upload their vaccination records to the airline's mobile app by June 22 to enter the lottery.

"We're proud to do our part to incentivize people to get their shot," Scott Kirby, the CEO for United, said in a statement.

"Thanks to the vaccine, more and more destinations are opening up for travel — and we know our customers are eager to fly," he said. "We're excited to give people one more reason to get vaccinated so they can reunite with friends and family or take that long-awaited vacation, which all could be just one shot away."

Throughout June, the "Your Shot to Fly" sweepstakes will give away 30 pairs of round-trip flights for two people to any destination the airline serves. United is launching new routes to Croatia, Greece, and Iceland and plans to resume flights to France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain this summer.

On July 1, United will also randomly select five "grand prize" winners who will receive a full year of travel for themselves and another person. The drawing is open to any U.S. resident who is at least 18 years old.

United customers who upload their vaccine records will also save time at the airport, the company said, particularly for destinations that require proof of vaccination.

United joins a number of companies and states that have created incentive programs to encourage people to get vaccinated. At the beginning of May, President Joe Biden set a goal for 70% of U.S. adults to receive at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose by July 4.

About 61.5% of Americans ages 18 and older have received at least one dose, according to the latest CDC tally updated on Monday. More than 49% of the total U.S. population has received at least one shot.
