NICE explains that the ankle brachial pressure should be measured with the person resting and supine if possible, and that measurements should be taken manually using a doppler probe of suitable frequency in preference to an automated system. The index in each leg should be calculated by dividing the highest ankle pressure by the highest arm pressure.
