NICE comments that evidence suggests smoking increases the risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture and so people with an AAA who smoke should be referred to a stop smoking service. NICE also recommends ensuring those with an AAA who have hypertension receive appropriate management of their hypertension as there is some evidence that high blood pressure increases the chance of abdominal aortic aneurysm growth and rupture.
