Under statewide restrictions intended to slow the spread of COVID-19, many people haven't been able to leave their houses as much as usual, and gyms as well as some parks, trails, and green spaces have been closed for weeks. This reality, plus school closures, have some experts concerned about shutdown-related weight gain.
Results of a new WebMD poll reinforce this concern. In a survey of more than 1000 readers, nearly half of women and about one quarter of men said they have gained weight during stay-at-home orders due to COVID-19.
