An active 45-year-old man, who plays tennis regularly and jogs several times a week, visits his primary care physician for a routine physical examination as part of the process for renewal of his Department of Transportation license. His pulse is noted to be irregular and a 12-lead ECG is obtained (Figure 1). He does not have any known heart disease and denies any symptoms.
