Curriculum and Checklist Development

Few previously published articles offered any guidelines for actual didactic content, with the exception of the comprehensive program developed by BAUN and BAUS (2017). Two articles offered cystoscopy training guidelines for physicians (Fialkow et al., 2007; Nihira et al., 2014). Two other articles (Langston et al., 2016; Langston et al., 2017) attest to the fact that role expansion with office cystoscopy is occurring in the absence of a U.S.-based training program.

Quallich and colleagues (2019) offer two tables to guide training in office cystoscopy; one describes the necessary clinical knowledge, while the other details the necessary technical knowledge. These authors also offer checklists that can be used when training APPs in cystoscopy and offered as evidence of training for credentialing and privileging needs. These four checklists include one for basic flexible office cystoscopy skills, cystoscopy and stent removal, cystoscopy with bladder biopsy, and cystoscopy for complicated catheter placement or urethral stricture dilation.
