The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) advises offering structured education to adults with type 2 diabetes at and around the time of diagnosis, with annual reinforcement and review. It highlights how it is important to explain to those with type 2 diabetes that structured education is an integral part of diabetes care. One component of a structured education programme is it should have specific aims and learning objectives, and should support the person in developing attitudes, beliefs, knowledge and skills to self‑manage diabetes.
