While health professionals have a key role in the informed choice of patients and are more and more frequently questioned about the respective benefit–risk balances of the available treatments or techniques, the use of a clear and factual terminology represents a major issue. Medical history is peppered with baffling terms for patients and doctors, and we believe that 'fertility preservation' is one of them. We should consider discussing how to use it, or not, while finding a more realistic and unifying term should be further explored.
