Biologic options for reconstruction around the hip can result in functional and durable results. When used alone or in conjunction with implants, bone healing and restoration of abductor mechanics is possible. The role of biologics is likely to expand with new techniques of retooling traditional grafts to make them more adaptable and potentially inductive to promote early healing and function. Osteoprogenitor cells, both allogenic and autogenic, combined with growth factors may represent a paradigm shift in the future and be used to augment skeletal repair.
