Summary

Surgeons may prescribe or implant an FDA-approved implant for an off-label use within the scope of their medical practice if doing so is the result of reasonable medical judgment and is in furtherance of the optimal patient outcome. However, orthopedic surgeons must remain aware of proper FDA-approved indications and meld this information with the best available clinical experience and research to provide the best possible care for their patients.
