In addition, when reassessing adults with an infected leg ulcer NICE advises to take into account any symptoms or signs suggesting a more serious illness or condition, for example sepsis or osteomyelitis. Co-morbidities, for example, diabetes or immunosuppression should also be taken into account, as should previous antibiotic use that may have led to resistant bacteria.
