Do You Mourn Your Patients?

As concerns about burnout mount, the experience of clinician loss and grief is getting more attention. Experts say the research and resources are welcome and long overdue, but they're quick to point out: For physicians and other healthcare professionals to heal, they have to "take off their armor."

Most clinicians say their training didn't prepare them to deal with patient loss. That may take an emotional toll and affect how they interact with other patients in the future.
