The results of our pooled analysis seem to suggest that the risk-benefit ratio favors the discontinuation of OAT after successful AF ablation even in patients at moderate-high risk of TE. However, no definitive conclusion on the efficacy and safety of OAC discontinuation after successful catheter ablation of AF, can be drawn on the basis of the available data. Well-designed randomized clinical trials on stroke risk after ablation in moderate to high stroke risk patients are certainly required to confirm our findings.
