NICE guidelines recommend that people at risk of delirium, or who have delirium, and their family and/or carers should be offered information that explains how delirium is common and usually temporary, and that describes people’s experiences of delirium. Family and carers should be encouraged to report any sudden changes in the person’s behaviour. Advice about support groups should also be provided.
