Conclusion

MCI represents an intermediate stage between normal aging and early dementia. This is the stage where most of the effort for disease modification in dementia is concentrated. MCI may represent a prodrome of dementia, or may instead revert to normal cognition or remain stable in time. The clinician can prognosticate and treat early symptoms, but also engage in intervention which may be disease modifying.
