The stepped care model of depression management involves 5 steps. These include: the detection and recognition of depression and risk profiling in primary care and community settings; the recognition of depression in children and young people referred to CAMHS; managing mild depression; managing moderate to severe depression; and managing unresponsive, recurrent and psychotic depression, including depression needing inpatient care.
