A prospective cohort study demonstrated that a higher dietary intake of nitrates from green leafy vegetables was associated with a lower risk of POAG, particularly in those with early paracentral visual field loss at the time of diagnosis, for which ocular vascular dysregulation has been implicated.[57] It may be beneficial to have a diet rich in nitric oxide, which has been hypothesized to be protective against POAG.
