In most cases antibiotics will be required to manage symptomatic catheter-associated UTI, according to NICE. Their guidelines advise that people with symptomatic catheter-associated UTI should be offered an antibiotic. The European Association of Urology guidelines highlight how catheter-associated UTI can be associated with more than one bacterial species and that these infections are often caused by bacteria resistant to antibiotics.
