A 66-year-old man with a history of coronary artery disease and a previous myocardial infarction (MI) treated with a stent presents to his cardiologist for a routine physical examination. He denies any cardiac symptoms but states that he takes his pulse on a regular basis and recently has noted it to be irregular. When seen and examined, his pulse is irregular and a 12-lead ECG is obtained.
