What Is MIPS?
MIPS is one of two new methods of reimbursing Medicare providers. MIPS attempts to simplify value-based payments to providers by streamlining requirements from the previous Physician Quality Reporting System, Value-Based Payment Modifier, and Medicare EHR Incentive Program for Eligible Professionals into a single composite score, which is then used to make positive, negative, or neutral adjustments to the participating provider's base Medicare Part B reimbursement rate on an annual basis. Eligible participants include physicians, dentists, podiatrists, optometrists, chiropractors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and clinical nurse specialists.
