By 2018, in England alone, there were 109,509 full time equivalent medical and dental staff. In Wales there were more than 6,000.

The number of hospital nurses has also increased from 68,013 in England and Wales seven decades ago to 320,422 today.

In 1949 there were 5637 midwifery staff. This year there are 26,519.

The number of GPs wasn't recorded until 1963 when there were 22,159 in England and Wales. By 2018 that number had almost doubled to 41,693.
