Conclusions

In summary, individuals with chronic pain experience multiple barriers and facilitators when attempting to take on an active role in managing their health. Nurses and other health care providers can support affected individuals by building collaborative relationships, addressing barriers, and building on facilitators. Those living with CPNC may have a different self-management experience and require additional support to succeed in managing the effects of chronic pain on their day-to-day life.
