Summary

Lumbar stenosis is a heterogeneous diagnosis. However, because of the lack of an adequate classification system, current studies have often grouped all patients with stenosis together. A meaningful classification system that considers the symptoms, the presence of instability, the location and severity of compression, and patient-specific modifiers is needed to improve studies and allow development of an ideal treatment algorithm for patients with LSS.
