Referral to Specialists

Primary care providers who have limited contact with atypical dementias such as FTD are encouraged to make referrals to a neurologist, geriatrician, or geriatric psychiatrist. The expertise provided by these specialists may help confirm the diagnosis and assist primary care providers in coordinating a plan of care for patients and their caregivers. Moreover, these specialists can provide further explanation to the caregivers about clinical symptoms and progression of the disease.
