Anogenital warts caused by HPV infection are typically self-limiting; however, many treatment options are available for patients experiencing bothersome symptoms. None of these options is curative in nature, and oftentimes the lesions can recur. Some HPV genotypes are responsible for the development of various cancers; current screening recommendations are intended to help identify early onset of cervical dysplasia. Strategies to reduce HPV transmission and infection include vaccination, along with abstinence or safe sexual practices.
