Case Presentation

Max is a 70-year-old man living in the Midwest who was admitted to a community hospice program this week. His admitting nurse, Jenny, is new to hospice, having transferred from a medical inpatient unit. She is discussing her plans to admit Max later that day with her nursing supervisor at the hospice. They talk about the special needs of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients. Jenny's supervisor reminds her to be sure to also determine whether Max is a veteran, as a routine part of the hospice's admission survey.
