Soon after Egas Moniz introduced leucotomy in the treatment of schizophrenia in 1936, side effects became apparent and were reported by healthcare professionals. As a result, this medicine prize has been the most criticized, even though lobotomy appeared to be a great step forward in psychiatry in the 1930s. Chlorpromazine was introduced in 1952.
