Surgical Release

Surgical release of posttraumatic elbow contracture is indicated when a patient has lost a functional arc of motion for daily activities or special needs and a nonoperative program of therapy and corrective splinting has failed to alleviate symptoms. Surgery typically may proceed when soft tissues are quiescent. In one study, patients underwent contracture release at a mean of 31wk after injury.[4]
