Illness Course

There is some suggestion of differing illness courses. Bipolar tends not to remit with age and can worsen over time,[23] whereas BPD has a more favourable prognosis, with many individuals no longer meeting criteria in middle age.[24] For example, Paris and Zweig-Frank[25] reported that only 8% met criteria for BPD at a 27-year follow up. Thus, failure to remit may be suggestive of a BP II condition versus attenuation over time characterising BPD.
