Conclusions
Our management of perforating injuries of the globe has substantially improved since the advent of pars plana vitrectomy. However, many areas remain undefined regarding the timing and method of surgical repair. All trauma cases are unique, therefore, optimal management often requires creativity based on a solid understanding of the pathophysiology and surgical approaches available. Additional advances in the field will hopefully further improve the visual and anatomic prognoses for these patients with severe ocular injuries.
