Early syphilis therapy has changed little over the past 50 years, with long-acting penicillin remaining the therapy of choice. More recent therapies are beset by difficulties in use, and real concern for treatment failure due to resistance. Clinicians managing patients with syphilis need to be familiar with recent guidelines and emerging data.
