Tregs & Immunosenescence
There are scarce data regarding the ability of natural Treg cells to regulate/suppress immune responses with aging. Studies with a mouse model of aging showed significantly enhanced percentages of peripheral CD4+CD25 Treg cells in aged mice and changes in the TCR repertoire and functionality of the CD4+CD25+ lymphocytes. By contrast, in a single study in humans, an increase in age was associated with an augmented CD4+CD25+ lymphocyte number without changes in function when compared with young individuals.
