Five-year View
The practice of ART will continue to move toward transfer of a single embryo in every cycle. Within the next 5 years, this will be standard of care for over 90% of transfers in women under 37 years of age. The effort to move to SET will be assisted by national reporting of total reproductive potential, which allows for results to be seen in terms of each embryo retrieval rather than per cycle. It will take longer to achieve SET in patients aged above 38 years. Technical advances will help although, within 5 years, they will not have completely solved the search for the best embryo to transfer.
