Future Perspective

Most of the trials validating the efficacy of orexigenic agents are currently completed in the general population and thus do not specifically evaluate the efficacy or side effects of such medications for the elderly population in which these agents are specifically prescribed. Newer randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials need to be performed in order to evaluate the efficacy, as well as adverse side effects, of these agents in this specific subgroup of the population. These trials need to place special emphasis on altered pharmacokinetics associated with aging.
