Conclusions

Although this literature search was not exhaustive, it was important to examine the literature as a first step in implementing a program to manage and minimize episodes of UI among hospitalized women. Nursing staff in the author's hospital were receptive to learning about evidence-based strategies, and next steps include educating the nursing staff of findings, creating a nursing policy for the management of UI, educating nursing staff on the policy, implementing changes into practice, and conducting chart audits on medical floors to assess the effectiveness of the recommendations.
