Overall, an intervention involving fiber supplementation for type 2 diabetes mellitus can reduce fasting blood glucose and HbA1c. Further studies of more than 12 weeks' length are warranted for testing fiber's effect on HbA1c. Also, studies involving larger doses of fiber are warranted to help support current diabetes dietary fiber recommendations.
