Endothelial Progenitor Cells
In contrast to angiogenesis, vasculogenesis is defined by formation of new vessels. However, functionally impaired circulating endothelial progenitor cells, party apoptotic, occur in increased numbers in SSc.[45] Autologous stem cells and progenitor cells are theoretically an ideal tool to counteract and repair dysfunctional cells and tissue, given the fact that these cells home to the affected sites of SSc.
